Profile: Bill has been a criminal trial counsel for over 30 years, both as a full-time prosecutor and defence counsel. He has appeared at all levels of trial court, in English and French, and was most recently (2000 to 2008) a senior member of the Crown Prosecutors Office in Edmonton, Alberta. His cases have included first and second degree murders, serious sexual assaults, and a wide range of criminal and provincial prosecutions. He was active in several professional organisations, including the Canadian Bar Association, Alberta Crown Attorneys Association, and St Thomas More Lawyers Guild. Bill was a frequent instructor in criminal practice at the Bar Admission Course, and provided advice and instruction for members of the RCMP.
In 2008, Bill came to the UK for LLM studies in Criminal Law and Criminology, and decided to stay. After pupillage at 4 Breams Buildings, he joined Chambers in January 2011. He currently appears in Magistrates and Crown Courts throughout London and the South East, has experience with lifer review advocacy, and recently was successful in his first sentence appeal before the Court of Appeal. Bill has prosecuted for the London Probation Service, and has applied to the CPS to be a Grade 1 Prosecutor.
Memberships include the Criminal Bar Association and the South East Circuit.
Interests include his tree farm in Southern Ontario, languages (bilingual in French, speaks basic Italian and Spanish, and starts a Mandarin course in January 2011).
