Profile: Robert prosecutes and defends in Crown Courts throughout London and the South East. He is experienced in dealing with all areas of crime. He has dealt with cases referred from the Criminal Cases Review Commission and been successful on appeal in such cases.
Robert is experienced in examining and cross-examining expert witnesses. He has dealt with experts on issues ranging from DNA, cell site analysis, blood stains, hand-writing, glass fragmentation, and the causes of car engine failure.
He has represented people from all parts of society including politicians, blue chip companies, and the mentally ill.
Robert's notable criminal cases include:
Serious violence
- R v Gulwell & others the kidnapping of a man and the amputation of his thumb as a result of a drugs dispute. Robert represented the principal defendant.
- R v Mehmet s. 18 GBH - punishment beating. Victim was targeted, then hit in the face with a baseball bat in broad daylight. Witnesses were afraid to come forward. Prosecuted through trial to conviction.
- R v Quinn & another allegation of a punishment beating (GBH) in front of numerous witnesses and CCTV cameras, ending in a car chase and crash. Robert defended. First trial ended in a hung jury.
- R v Rainbow & others allegation of a vulnerable autistic complainant being tied up and beaten by a mentally ill defendant.
- R v Gurney Robert defended in a case of shaken baby twins.
- R v Hodge Robert defended in a case of firearms with threats to kill.
- R v Bediakosey Robert prosecuted a case of child cruelty.
Robbery
- R v Omos armed robbery and s.18 GBH of a lone victim at night. Prosecuted through trial to conviction.
- R v McLoughlin successful defence in a robbery where the victim was stabbed repeatedly in head, face and body by masked attackers.
- R v Lamptey £170,000 jewel heist. Robert represented main getaway driver (principals never caught).
Sexual offences
Money laundering / fraud
- R v Ogunsanya & others Robert defended in an allegation of Fraud where defendants were accused of inventing a person and sustaining their identity for seven years.
- R v Egeonu & another Robert defended the principal defendant in an allegation of international money laundering.
- R v Bhebhe Robert defended in an allegation of fraud through use of multiple identities with money transferred overseas.
- R v Marunovas successful defence of man who received thousands of pounds in his bank account from an internet fraud.
Drugs
- R v Ezekude & others allegation of cocaine importation on a large scale. Robert represented the principal defendant who was accused of organising and running couriers bringing cocaine into the UK on a regular basis.
- R v Clement-Gustave PWITS of large amounts of cocaine and Heroin. Prosecuted through trial to conviction.
- R v Owen - PWITS. Defendant possessed large number of wraps of Class A drugs. Prosecuted through trial to conviction.

- R v Adrejs Aleksejev robbery. Successful defence of man who accepted in interview punching the victim in the face while demanding money.
- R v Killingback & others - multi-handed affray, involving two large groups of people. Prosecuted through trial to conviction.
- R v Thompson Burglary - Successful defence of a man whose DNA was found inside burgled premises.
- R v Anderson & another junior in a case of illegal disposal of industrial waste reported in the press as being the largest conspiracy of such a type in London.
- R v Gurney allegation of GBH on baby twins by shaking them.
- R v Bashir & another - a Criminal Cases Review Commission case concerning a corrupt senior police officer. Appeal successful.
- R v Istoc & others conspiracy to defraud involving bank cards, widely reported in the press as one of the most sophisticated bank card frauds in the UK
Memberships
Robert is a member of the South Eastern Circuit, Central London Bar Mess, the Criminal Bar Association, Justice and Gray's Inn. He has served on the Young Barristers' Committee of the General Council of the Bar.
Before coming to the Bar: Robert worked at Hickman & Rose Solicitors dealing exclusively with criminal cases. Later on he was a lawyer for Herbert Smith and then Norton Rose Solicitors, working in their commercial litigation departments on trials involving multinational corporations and city traders. Between 2001-2002, he helped set up his local law centre and was its Treasurer.
Robert's interests include family, fitness and crosswords.
