Profile: Mr Jafar is a member of the Bar Pro Bono Unit. He has represented clients up to the Court of Appeal in the UK. He has successfully judicially reviewed decisions concerning human rights including gender and sexual orientation discrimination cases, asylum and housing. In asylum cases, he has successfully overturned controversial decisions concerning the rights of Palestinians and other persecuted minorities including Africans from Darfur, Sudan.

Mr Jafar has authored papers to government consultations including reviewing anti-terror legislation and diversity in the judiciary. He has authored papers on international human rights issues including providing technical assessments on international standards of fair trials that have been relied on by the Bar Human Rights Committee, Commonwealth Secretariat, the UN and the FCO.

Internationally, Mr Jafar has been involved in human rights missions in Egypt and was part of a delegation in the Maldives and Sri Lanka. He has served with the Royal Green Jackets and has been involved in humanitarian and human rights work with the OSCE and the UN in Kosovo.

Within Chambers, Mr Jafar has been tasked to oversee compliance with Bar Council rules on diversity.

Interests: Mr Jafar is involved in politics and has stood as a candidate in local and GLA elections. He scuba dives, reads and engages in extreme sports whenever he can.
